Once again, Gelfand members excelled in hosting an event for Area 24 clubs. About 50 Toastmasters from Gelfand and six other clubs filled our meeting room for the second round of the International Speech and Table Topics contests.
It was a flawless event produced by Contest Chair Marlene Bryan and her team: Chief Judge Charlene Adamson (Pembroke Pines Toastmasters); Sgt. At Arms John Simon; timers Jackie Crucet and Maggie Evans; and registration officials Evaldo B. Amaral and Sheba Jones.
Participants also included dignitaries from around the district: Area Governor Bhaskar Karumanchi; District 47 Treasurer Anthony Richiez; and Hieu Huynh, District 47 Lt. Governor Marketing East.
Our own Diana Marshalleck competed in both contests. She gave an impressive response to the Table Topics question, “Who or what inspires you?” Many of those in the audience were inspired by her International speech, “Our Deepest Fear.” While Diana did not win, it was a worthy performance!
Romaine Lindo (F.C.C. Toastmasters) was declared the winner of Table Topics, with Kingsley Grant (Hollywood Toastmasters) taking second place. Kingsley also won first place in the International contest; Tony Moore took second place.
See the District 47 website for details on the Division B round of the two contests, March 17 at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.
